Black Friday
Black Friday 2020 will be different.
But no, it's not canceled.
Instead of hordes of shoppers lined outside stores during the wee morning hours, there will be an extra emphasis on Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. You're not going to see people lining up in the dark because many retailers that have been open on Thanksgiving day will likely stay closed because… what's the point?
What Are The Big Guys Doing?
Many big-box retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kohl's have already announced that they will keep their stores closed on turkey-day.
Instead, this year will be all about pre-Black Friday sales starting as early as October for as long as they possibly can (maybe until the end of the year). And the doorbusters people throw elbows to get their hands on? I'm 99.99% sure they'll be available online only, so get your web browsers open and your click-finger iced; you're going to have to be a 'quick-draw McGraw to lockdown a smoking deal this year.
Knowing all this, how should you prepare?
Well, first of all, if your business doesn't have an online shopping option yet, you better get your ass in gear. 2020 Holiday sales are going to rely heavily on your customer's having the ability to shop from the comforts of home.
Secondly, if you do have an online presence, don't try to compete with 'big box' stores that are running Black-Friday sales until 2021. You're not on the same playing field as them, and in my opinion, that's a really good thing. It makes you much easier to relate to and gives you endless freedom to start or stop campaigns in response to the market.
Plus, your 'small business status' gives you the upper hand when leveraging your community - they already love you. Right?
This is the moment when all your hard work growing a community of people who trust & love you comes into play - they want to see YOU survive the pandemic.
How To Guarantee Your Survival
But just as they will likely show up for you, you've got to show up for them. And doing that isn't as complicated as you may think:
Start collecting emails & begin sending sales information to them 'personally' - skip the salesy look and feel of 'traditional' email campaigns. There's a much better way to connect with your audience, and it starts with learning how to write your emails to *one*.
Breakaway from the noise of social media by hosting collaborative giveaways with small businesses you adore. I wouldn't pick a direct competitor, but you could collaborate with a company that shares a similar audience to yours. Trust me; it'll work out for both parties.
Do everything in your power to keep your clientele close, and your values closer - share your story, why you started, who you're there to serve, and ALWAYS tie it back to an offer.
Remember, social media isn't where you make the bulk of your sales. Its the spot where people learn who you are, what your products are, your values, and if you're right for them (their lifestyle).
Your website and emails are where the real cash is made - and if you're lacking in your inbox game, I can help.
